KUALA LUMPUR – Suspect Noor Azhar Muhammad will be charged with murder for the death of Ipoh security guard S. Thava Sagayam.

In a statement today by Perak police chief Datuk Faridalathrash Wahid, he said the Attorney-General’s Chambers has agreed to amend the current assault charge to murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

This comes after police reclassified the nature of their investigations following Thava’s death.

“Perak police conducted a conclusive investigation under Section 302 following reports that the security guard died on August 27,” Mior said in a statement.

On December 29 last year, Noor Azhar and his son were refused entry to their condominium swimming pool by Thava, following which Thava was assaulted and then left unconscious due to a brain injury.

Police initially conducted investigations for assault under Section 355 of the Penal Code, apprehended Noor Azhar and subsequently charged him.

On August 27, Thava, 64, died after being bed-ridden following an attack on December 29 last year by the suspect.

Earlier, police had opened an investigation paper under Section 326 of the Penal Code and the suspect was charged in the Ipoh magistrates’ court on January 6 for causing serious injuries.

On September 3, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob vowed justice for Thava.

Ismail Sabri said he is both saddened and shocked by what happened, and that there must be justice.

“I’m saddened and appalled by this incident.

“Nobody is above the law. Justice must, and will, take its course. Thank you YB for your concern.” – The Vibes, September 9, 2021
