MIRI – The recent arrest of paedophile Alladin Lanim was not an isolated case, said Sarawak police commissioner Datuk Aidi Ismail.

He said police have conducted investigations into 260 of such cases since 2017.

“About 76% of the cases have been prosecuted in court, and more than three quarters have been sentenced to jail.

“The remaining cases are still in the trial process.

“To date, we have investigated a total of 260 cases under the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 since it came into force four years ago,” he said in a statement today.

Aidi said the arrest of Alladin, one of the world’s most wanted paedophiles, was the result of a joint police effort, especially with the federal Sexual, Women and Child Investigations Division (D11) of the Criminal Investigation Department, Sarawak D11, and Australian police.

For about 14 years, Alladin had abused children in Lundu, Sarawak undetected.

Alladin not only sexually abused children between the ages of 2 and 16, but published his crimes on the dark web, boasting about his exploits.

Alladin pled guilty to 18 charges and was sentenced to 48 years in prison and 15 strokes of the cane.

“He was arrested at a plantation site in Lundu where he worked as a field officer and not at a quarantine centre as reported by the media.

“He has not left Sarawak since 2016,” said Aidi, adding that the 40-year-old paedophile was found with thousands of sexual abuse pictures taken using his handphone. – The Vibes, September 10, 2021
