KOTA BARU – The authorities are investigating a video that went viral yesterday showing a VIP allegedly jumping the queue at a mosque to perform Friday prayers.

Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Ahmad Marzuk Shaary stressed that all congregants must be given fair treatment, and there should be no “VIP cluster” at mosques.

The mosque management should use its discretion and not submit to the whims of certain individuals, he said, adding that the authorities are waiting for an explanation on the incident from the mosque in question.

“Even I queue up when I’m at the mosque. The important thing is, (congregants) should come early if they want a spot,” he told reporters here today.

The video has drawn criticism from netizens, who pointed out the double standards for dignitaries. – Bernama, September 11, 2021
