KUALA LUMPUR – Perikatan Nasional has thrown its weight behind Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob just ahead of the Dewan Rakyat sitting today, saying there is no need for a confidence vote in the lower House.
In a joint statement issued by all PN component parties’ information chiefs, the coalition said that the vote is not needed, seeing that the Yang di-Pertuan Agong is satisfied with the majority support for the prime minister.
“We urge the opposition parties to stop being hypocritical in this matter.
“We call on all lawmakers to focus instead on economic development, healthcare, the reopening of schools and educational institutions, as well as continued efforts to address the pandemic in this parliamentary session.”
They added that the country needs stability and “any attempt by the opposition to threaten stability is not only an untimely action, but also irresponsible”.
The statement was made by Bersatu information chief Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan, PAS’ Kamaruzaman Mohamad, SAPP’s Chin Vui Kai, Sabah Star’s Jeffrey Kumin and Gerakan’s Koo Shiaw Lee.
Later today, Ismail Sabri will sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with opposition coalition Pakatan Harapan in Parliament.

In a joint press statement yesterday , representatives from both sides of the divide said all relevant parties have agreed that the MoU will be signed to return political stability and address the Covid-19 threat and the need for economic recovery.
