A DECISION against the six rogue Bersatu MPs who gave their support to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim would be brought to the party’s supreme council for endorsement soon, said party secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin.
He said the decision has already been discussed at a party subcommittee level chaired by party president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and the outcome would soon be presented to the supreme council for endorsement.
“Whatever decision is taken must be respected by all members … it is for the good of the party,” he told reporters after attending the Sabah Bersatu inaugural convention held at a hotel in Kota Kinabalu.
On whether the MPs would have to vacate their seats, Zainuddin maintained, “It will be based on the decision of the party.”
Towards this end, Muhyiddin said based on the newly amended party constitution, membership would be automatically cancelled if they committed such offences.
The RoS approved Bersatu’s constitutional amendments, which allows the party to vacate the seats of the six parliamentarians who voiced their support for Anwar.
“Based on the federal constitution and the anti-party hopping law, the seats are also automatically vacated.
“But we have to undergo the process in the party first and the decision will be notified to the speaker and the Election Commission will have to announce the seats have been vacated. This is how we see it,” he said.
The six aforementioned Bersatu MPs are Bukit Gantang MP Datuk Syed Abu Hussain Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal, Tanjong Karang MP Datuk Zulkaperi Hanafi, Jeli MP Zahari Ketchikan, Kuala Kangsar MP Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid, Labuan MP Datuk Suhaili Abdul Rahman and Gua Musang MP Mohd Azizi Abu Naim. – The Vibes, May 6, 2024
