KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob and the Pakatan Harapan coalition made history today when both the government and the opposition inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on a slew of political reforms.
The signing ceremony took place in Parliament’s banquet hall and political experts foresee a vast difference in the country’s political landscape.
The Transformation and Political Stability MoU covers six key points: Covid-19 plan enforcement; administrative transformation; parliamentary reforms; judiciary institution independence; Malaysia Agreement 1963; and, the formation of a steering committee, says Ismail Sabri in a statement.
The Bera MP said the signing of the MoU forms a strong bi-partisan cooperation by raising the spirit of Keluarga Malaysia (Malaysian Family), in line with the decree of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
“His Majesty decreed that all parties need to practice democracy in finding solutions to any problems in order to achieve the goal of a prosperous, inclusive and sustainable Malaysia.
“The spirit of Keluarga Malaysia which emphasises unity, cooperation and togetherness is what is expressed in the MoU by the government and the honourable members this evening.
“The transformation introduced by the government will not only lead to excellent governance in combating Covid-19 and economic recovery, but also acts as a catalyst in a conducive investment climate, thus driving strong economic growth for the well-being of Keluarga Malaysia,” he said.
Furthermore, he said the government is confident that the MoU will not only be able to put aside political differences, but also ensure that the country’s recovery runs holistically and inclusively.
“The highest appreciation to the honourable members who made up their minds to set aside political ideological differences to jointly drive the economic stability and well-being of Keluarga Malaysia,” he said
Those who were also present during the signing of the MoU were Dewan Negara president Tan Sri Rais Yatim, Speaker Datuk Azhar Azizan Harun, Port Dickson MP Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Bagan MP Lim Guan Eng, and Kota Raja MP Mohamad Sabu.
Other MPs present during the signing were Ketereh MP Tan Sri Annuar Musa, Seremban MP Anthony Loke, Senator Datuk Donald Peter Mojuntin, Kulim Bandar Baharu MP Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail and Pulai MP Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub. – The Vibes, September 13, 2021
