KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia’s new Covid-19 cases dipped further again after 17,577 infections were reported today, compared with 18,815 cases yesterday.
Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the latest numbers bring the cumulative cases to 2,067,327.
He said Sarawak continued to have the highest daily new cases, reporting 3,480 infections, followed by Selangor (2,646) and Johor with 2,334 cases.
Four states recorded over 1,000 new infections, namely Perak with 1,596 cases, Sabah (1,533), Penang (1,462), and Kedah (1,173).
Kelantan reported 869 cases, Pahang (832), Terengganu (719), Kuala Lumpur (366), Melaka (287), Negri Sembilan (198), Perlis (41), Putrajaya (31), and Labuan (10).
Dr Noor Hisham also said that intensive care unit bed usage nationwide yesterday was 76% out of 1,611 beds, while non-ICU usage was at 70% out of 17,043 beds.
In his statement, he said that out of the 17,577 new cases today, 244 (1.4%) are in categories 3, 4, and 5, whereas 17,333 cases (98.6%) are of the less severe categories 1 and 2. Three cases were imported.
He reported that 1,223 patients are under intensive care, while 720 require breathing assistance.
The country has also recorded 22,970 recoveries, bringing the total discharged to 1,823,248.
At the same time, the infectivity rate (R-naught) for the nation is below 1.0 at an R-naught of 0.98.
On top of the list is Sarawak with 1.11, Perak (1.04), Terengganu (1.04), Perlis (1.03), Pahang (1.02), Johor (1.01), Penang (1.01), and Kelantan (1.00).
In addition, he said the country has seen a total of 5,247 clusters, including 19 new clusters today.
A total of 3,860 clusters have ended, leaving 1,387 active clusters.
He said 11 of the new clusters today are related to workplaces, six are from the community and two related to high-risk groups. – The Vibes, September 17, 2021
