KUALA LUMPUR – The country today logged 13,899 new coronavirus cases, a decline from yesterday’s 14,554.
In the lead is Sarawak with 2,712 infections, followed by Selangor (2,341) and Johor (1,377).
Kelantan saw 1,170 cases, Perak (1,128), Penang (1,060), Sabah (962), Pahang (779), Terengganu (760), Kedah (708), Melaka (339), Kuala Lumpur (310) and Negri Sembilan (194).
Putrajaya logged 37 cases, Perlis (17) and Labuan (5).
The latest infections bring Malaysia’s total Covid-19 caseload to 2,185,131.
Significant drop in Sabah’s daily Covid-19 cases
Sabah’s daily Covid-19 cases have dropped to three digits for the first time in more than seven weeks, after recording between 1,000 and 3,000 cases since early August.
The state registered 962 new Covid-19 cases today and districts recorded less than 100 cases each – Kota Kinabalu highest with 91, followed by Sandakan (81), Lahad Datu (73), and Tuaran (70).
Sabah Covid-19 official spokesman Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said in his statement that the reduction in cases – compared to yesterday’s 1,273 cases – is a good sign.
However, he said it is too early to tell if the downtrend will continue.
He added that of the total new cases today, 361 cases (37.53%) were backlog cases from two to three days ago, 47 cases (5%) from four to five days ago, and seven cases are from more than five days ago.
He said 144 cases today (15%) are in Category 1, and 717 cases (74.5%) are in Category 2. Only four cases were recorded in Category 3 today and Category 4 (three cases), and Category 5 (seven cases), while 87 cases are still being determined.
The last time Sabah recorded a three-digit caseload was August 4 (949 cases). Sabah’s Covid-19 cases had increased significantly in August, with 1,002 new cases on August 1, increasing to the highest 3,376 cases on August 24.
This month, the new cases have been gradually decreasing from more than 2,000 earlier this month, to about 1,900 cases beginning September 13. – The Vibes, September 25, 2021
