[UPDATED] Daily Covid-19 cases decline further to 11,889, Sarawak tops at 2,413

KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia recorded 11,889 Covid-19 cases today, down from yesterday’s 12,735.

This brings the cumulative total since the pandemic began to 2,257,584 cases.

Sarawak topped the list at 2,413 cases, followed by Selangor (1,568) and Johor (1,217).

Perak recorded 959 cases, Sabah 872, Kelantan 858, and Pahang 831.

Penang had 779 cases, Kedah 710, Terengganu 699, and Melaka 378.

Kuala Lumpur had 289 cases, followed by Negri Sembilan at 197, Perlis at 81, Putrajaya at 36, and Labuan at two.

In a statement today, Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the country also recorded 15,891 recoveries, bringing the total discharged to 2,070,715.   

Also, 905 cases are under intensive care, while 492 require breathing assistance.  

Dr Noor Hisham said of the 11,889 cases today, 179 cases are in Categories 3, 4 and 5, while the rest are in Categories 1 and 2.  

The country has seen a total of 5,491 clusters since the pandemic began last year, including 14 new ones.  

Some 4,423 clusters have ended while 1,068 remain active.  

He said seven clusters are detected from workplaces, six are from the community, and one is from a religious event.  

The cluster with the lowest new infections is the Jalan Sengkang Pagoh community cluster in Muar, Johor with six cases while the Giam community cluster in Kuching, Sarawak recorded the highest infections with 150 cases.

Sarawak tops at 2,413 Covid-19 infections, 26 deaths

On the heels of 26 more deaths and 2,413 infections, state Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian said the number of cases could have be higher if not for the vaccination drive.

“The Delta variant is coming from the peninsula and neighbouring Kalimantan.”

The State Disaster Management Committee said eight deaths were recorded in Kuching, followed by five each in Miri and Sibu, Sri Aman (3), two each in Betong and Sarikei, and one in Bintulu.

Of the 2,413 new infections today, Kuching has 787, Miri (307), Sibu (186), Sri Aman (123), Bintulu (117) and other districts with fewer than 100 cases each. – The Vibes, October 1, 2021
