KUALA LUMPUR – The Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry has given an assurance that it will investigate allegations of an e-commerce platform bullying its traders.
Following a recent exposé on the issue by Getaran, The Vibes’ Bahasa Malaysia sister portal, Deputy Minister Datuk Rosol Wahid said the probe will be undertaken in collaboration with the Malaysia Competition Commission (MyCC).
As the ministry is concerned with consumerism issues, it takes such claims seriously, including those affecting online business owners, he said.
“The ministry, with the collaboration of MyCC, will investigate this claim under the scope of the law that is enforced,” he told Getaran when contacted.
“We will certainly investigate, because the ministry is still studying the business structure of this platform under p-hailing and e-hailing delivery services.”
It was recently reported that a trader claimed to have been given a penalty warning by an e-commerce business provider after it was found out that he is also conducting business on a different online trading platform.
Rosol declined to comment further, so as to not affect the investigation process.
“The ministry cannot give further information as it will disturb the ongoing investigation.”
When contacted, MyCC declined to give comments on the matter as well.
“As per the information provided through telephone and WhatsApp, we appreciate your initiative in contacting MyCC regarding this matter,” said an agency official.
