KUALA LUMPUR – A human rights group and non-governmental organisations said that they will lodge police reports nationwide against preacher Ustaz Syakir Nasoha who was seen in a viral video making disparaging racial comments on non-Muslim religions.
S. Shashi Kumar, president of the Global Human Rights Federation, said the mass police reports are being made because Syakir’s remarks will cause unrest in a multiracial and multicultural nation like Malaysia.
“He insulted and defamed the religions of Buddhism, Hinduism, people of the Dayak community, and other non-Islamic religious beliefs in Malaysia. In the viral video, he stated that Muslims and Islam will be destroyed by these kafir (infidels).
“These are very serious, seditious remarks, and we want an immediate arrest, and actions taken on ustaz Syakir Nasoha without (fear or) favour, as issues pertaining to (Muslim) preachers insulting other faiths and beliefs in Malaysia have become more frequent.
“However, the law seems to have a double standard when it comes to arresting them,” he said in a video sighted by The Vibes.
The Vibes was made to understand that the police reports will be lodged nationwide tomorrow at 1pm.
Shashi then urged all “peace-loving Malaysians” not to react or comment on social media but instead exercise their constitutional rights and lodge a police report.
He stressed that the issue is not confined only to the Buddhists, Hindus, or the Dayak community, but instead is a Malaysian issue affecting everyone in the country, including those professing the Muslim faith.
“For those in Kuala Lumpur, we will be gathering at Sentul district police headquarters to lodge the report. Those who are in other states, you may get more details from state coordinators who are organising it,” Shashi said.
Yesterday, a one-minute TikTok video of Syakir saying that “at the end of time, disciples of non-Muslim religions will be scrambling together to kill Muslims in the world” made its rounds on social media and WhatsApp.
He also claimed that the assassination of Muslims in Thailand and India are executed by Buddhists and Hindus.
However, in a separate video response, the preacher said that it was an old video and claimed that it was the doing of certain individuals to malign him.
“It’s an old video, I don’t know which year that video was taken. I was still thin at that time. The video was cut short, and it made it seem like I was condemning other religions. I was only reciting the hadith where the prophet said there will be signs when the end is near.
“If the Malay Muslims are racists, would we allow them (non-Muslims) to stay in our homeland? This is the land of the Malays. But there is no problem, we allow them to be here.
“However, it seems like they have become big-headed,” he said in a video sighted by The Vibes.
