KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia recorded 8,817 new Covid-19 cases today, bringing the cumulative total to 2,294,457.

Sarawak topped the list at 1,361 cases, followed by Selangor (1,348), and Kelantan (1,063).

Johor recorded 886 cases, while Sabah had 805, Pahang 696, Penang 595, and Kedah 576.

Perak had 473 cases, Terengganu 356, Melaka 346, and Kuala Lumpur 217.

Negri Sembilan recorded 122 cases, Perlis 47, Putrajaya 23, and Labuan three.

In a statement, Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said of the fresh cases, 182 (2.1%) are in Categories 3, 4 and 5, while 8,635 (97.9%) are in Categories 1 and 2.

He said the country recorded another 15,615 recoveries, bringing the total discharged to 2,131,636.

He said 851 patients are in intensive care, with 395 requiring breathing assistance.

Of the new infections, 14 were imported, he added.

Dr Noor Hisham said Malaysia has seen a total of 5,536 clusters, including 14 new ones today, with 956 still active.
