KUALA LUMPUR – Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim today gave his personal mobile number to the public to lodge complaints on road damage in Kuala Lumpur, much to the amusement of the Dewan Rakyat.
Speaking in Parliament, the Umno lawmaker guaranteed that upon receiving feedback, he would ensure that any damage would be fixed within 24 hours.
He also gave the mobile numbers of his deputy Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias and Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Seri Mahadi Che Ngah.
“I have discussed with Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and ordered them to take action within 24 hours if there is a complaint,” he said during his ministry’s winding-up speech in the Dewan Rakyat.
“You can call me at 019-4545111, my deputy at 019-6524444, or the mayor at 016-2068883. We are ready.
“Malaysians can call us any time. Those who have just arrived in KL and find potholes or dangerous roads to drive on can contact us, and we will take action within 24 hours. We want to be the best in Malaysia and the world.”
Shahidan’s remark drew laughter from the House, ostensibly surprised by his decision to share his personal number to the public.
Among them was P. Prabakaran (Batu-PH), who said: “Thank you minister for being brave to give out your number to the people of Malaysia.”
Prabakaran added that other than roads, DBKL should also focus and monitor construction sites that are located nearby main roads in the city centre.
He said that this is because construction vehicles are the main cause of potholes and road damage.
“When they don’t abide by the regulations, this is what happens. Jalan Sentul is a great example of this. No matter how many times the roads are paved, the issue will resurface,” he said.
Earlier, Shahidan said DBKL does monitor road conditions in the city, especially for roads located close to construction projects, main roads, as well as roads with high traffic volume. – The Vibes, October 7, 2021
