KUALA LUMPUR – The government has allocated RM84 million for the development of infrastructure and community facilities in Chinese New Villages this year, the Dewan Rakyat was told.
Deputy Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Abd Muttalib said of the allocation, RM69 million was for infrastructure development, RM5 million for home repair and RM10 million for a special loan scheme for the residents.
“At present, there are 613 new villages across the country, which were divided into three categories – namely new villages created during the emergency to fight the communist insurgency, new villages or Chinese settlements in the suburbs and fishing villages for Chinese fishermen,” he said in reply to Wong Kah Woh (Ipoh Timur-PH) during question time.
Ismail said as of last month, 216 small-scale infrastructure development projects were being implemented in the new villages, involving an allocation of RM19.8 million.
Meanwhile, Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican said 79 private housing projects in Peninsular Malaysia have been declared as abandoned projects under the Housing Development (Control and Licensing) Act 1966 (Act 118) as of September 30.
He said it involved 11,824 buyers.
Sixty-five or 82% of the projects were abandoned due to the weak financial management of developers.
Reezal Merican said the efforts taken by the ministry to help ease the burden of buyers were through mediation, rehabilitation and settlement with the buyers, including by reselling houses to liquidators. – Bernama, October 7, 2021
