KOTA KINABALU – Hot on the heels of a suspected drug dealer, police opened fire twice after the suspect tried to evade arrest in front of a commercial centre in Menggatal around 2pm today.

The shots aimed at the tyres of the suspect’s red Myvi car were captured on video, which then went viral.

Police managed to detain the suspect, a non-citizen in his twenties, after a short chase.

In the video, plain-clothed police personnel were seen thumping on the window of the suspect’s vehicle while police obstructed it with another vehicle in an attempt to stop the suspect from fleeing.

The suspect’s vehicle was seen reversing before driving over the five-foot way to escape.

Confirming the arrest, Kota Kinabalu acting police chief George Abd Rahman said the suspect acted aggressively and tried to ram into the police patrol car in his bid to escape.

“Officers fired two shots at the tyres and the suspect was only able to drive 120m away from the crime scene,” he said.

Police seized two packets of Syabu weighing 100g found inside the suspect’s car and the case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952. – The Vibes, October 11, 2021
