KUALA LUMPUR – Self-employed food stall operators in conditional movement control order (CMCO) areas are advised to apply for inter-district travelling permits from the police if they want to continue doing businesses.

This was the workaround suggested by Senior Minister (Defence) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob at his daily Covid-19 update today over a report of a hawker who was fined RM1,000 for not having a work access permit.

“I understand that those who are self-employed have no one to vouch and validate their business. My advice is for them to get an inter-district travelling permit from the police,” said Ismail.

At the briefing, Ismail also announced that the National Security Council (NSC) has decided to end the CMCO at Kg Padang Che Mas in Baling, Kedah tomorrow as no positive cases have been detected since yesterday.

On a question over the lack of food aid at the Omadai island in Semporna, Sabah, Ismail explained that it was so because the island is not under the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) – which entails a total lockdown.

“The Omadai island is only under CMCO. It is not one of the 6 localities in Semporna that are under EMCO. The economic activities in the island can continue as usual.

“That is why the NSC did not send food aids to the locals there. Food aids are only sent to EMCO areas. However, we will ask Sabah’s Disaster Centre to deliberate on the need to send food aids there,” he said – The Vibes, October 30, 2020
