GEORGE TOWN – Penang folk better start sharpening their sports skills if they want to win one of the 120 prizes in the Be Active Be Sportive Jom Exercise campaign.
The campaign will run until October 25 in conjunction with the National Sports Month, said sports exco Soon Lip Chee.
Among the prizes are autographs on sporting goods of Penang-born national athletes, such as Chan Peng Soon, Jeremiah Loo Phay Xing and Nur Azlia Syafinaz.
Soon said in a statement that participants need to display their skills on their Facebook accounts, with the tag “Sports for all Penang” and the state sports council, as well as filling up an online form.
Participants can enter the contest only once, he added.
The first 1,000 participants who meet the terms and conditions will be in running for prizes and a lucky draw event to be hosted virtually on October 29 via the Sports for all Penang Facebook page.

Meanwhile, the Malaysia Semiconductor Industry Association (MSIA) has contributed 2,500 pulse oximeters units worth RM75,000 to the state Covid-19 welfare arm of PgCare Alliance to help in the battle against Covid-19.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, and excos Phee Boon Poh and Yeoh Soon Hin witnessed the handover ceremony at Komtar.

The devices will be distributed to those under home quarantine as the state hopes to improve personal surveillance capacity to reduce the number of brought-in-dead (BID) cases.
The unvaccinated population in Penang based on MySejahtera data has dipped to 18% as of 8am today, while the fully vaccinated rate stands at 70%.
State health exco Dr Norlela Ariffin said there is room for improvement in getting as many people fully jabbed as possible.
There are now 5,818 active cases in Penang, of which 88.1% are under home quarantine as they are Category 1 and 2 cases, whereas 3.7% are at low-risk quarantine centres, 7.1% are hospitalised while 0.7% are in intensive care, with 0.4% requiring breathing support.
The death toll in Penang is now at 1,502, with five fatalities recorded yesterday.
Tourism officials anticipate that up to 50,000 people will visit the state this weekend, raising concerns over the ability to enforce standard operating procedures at Penang’s hot spots. – The Vibes, October 15, 2021
