GEORGE TOWN – The oldest nasi kandar restaurant in Malaysia, Hameediyah Restaurant, was fined RM10,000 yesterday over an SOP (standard operating procedure) violation under the National Recovery Plan.
In the compound notice seen by The Vibes, the premises in Campbell Street was fined after police found the restaurant owner failed to ensure that his employees checked in on MySejahtera at about 4pm.
It is mandatory for all employees and patrons of a restaurant to check in via the MySejahtera app.
It is understood that at the time of the incident, the famous restaurant was receiving a high number of visitors, following the resumption of interstate travel.
Northeast district police chief Soffian Santong confirmed the matter.
Last year, Hameediyah received the Malaysia Book of Records recognition as the “Oldest Nasi Kandar Restaurant” after being in operation for 114 years.
Meanwhile, Soffian said the owner of a bistro restaurant in Jalan Magazine here, and six customers were fined last night for violating SOPs.
Each customer was fined RM2,000, while the owner was handed a RM10,000 compound.
He added that the compound was issued by a team of officers from the Timur Laut district headquarters who carried out monitoring duties at 10.50pm.
“The officers found six customers, who are not fully vaccinated, enjoying the dine-in privilege.
