BERA – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob has advised teachers yet to get vaccinated against Covid-19 to do so immediately, so as to protect themselves and their students.
Although vaccination is not compulsory for educators, he said, they risk increasing the possibility of infection when in-person classes resume.
“For example, primary school teachers who have not been vaccinated, they are putting their students at risk, and also risking the safety of their fellow teachers. That is why the Education Ministry is firm on the matter.
“We should be responsible and protect our colleagues, and more importantly, our students,” he said during the presentation of computers to students in his parliamentary constituency, at SMK Bera Bandar 32 here today.
Present was Pahang education director Mohammad Rosli Abdul Rahman.
Ismail Sabri said those who do not get inoculated will not be able to enjoy the perks accorded to individuals who have received both shots, including the lifting of the ban on interstate travel.
Rosli said 98% of teachers in the state have been vaccinated, and the rate is 88% for students aged between 12 and 17.
He said 167 students in Pahang have lost their parents to the virus. – Bernama, October 17, 2021
