GEORGE TOWN – A police investigation is ongoing to look into the sudden death of a 6-year-old girl, who is believed to have fallen from an elevated height at a hotel in Tg Bungah.
However, police are said to be puzzled as there were no tell-tale signs of where the girl might have slipped from.
Her body was found largely intact inside an empty artificial pond at the foyer on the second floor of the property. Forensic teams continue to scour the hotel.
Northeast district police head Soffian Santong confirmed the case, and said police need time to conclude their investigations.
There are speculations that the girl fell from the ninth floor although the family room was listed on the 21st floor.
A room on the ninth floor was found ajar during the search.
The girl was with her family, who hails from neighbouring Sg Petani in Kedah.
The family arrived last Saturday for a weekend break here after the interstate travel ban was lifted by the National Security Council.
It has also been reported that prior to the incident, the child went swimming in the hotel pool on the ground floor with her family members.
After the swim, they went up to their hotel room to prepare to check out.
However, the youngest of the four siblings is said to have rushed into the elevator alone before the doors closed, with her family 20m behind her.
The family and hotel staffers frantically searched for the child for about 10 minutes before discovering her body on the second floor of the hotel.
The body has been sent to Penang Hospital for a post-mortem. – The Vibes, October 19, 2021
