KUALA LUMPUR – An 8-month-old baby died after she was reportedly left alone in a car at the Canselor Tunku Muhriz Hospital car park here yesterday.

Cheras police chief Zam Halim Jamaluddin said the incident occurred just before 6pm.

The baby is said to have been left in the car for about 10 hours, he added.

The infant was allegedly placed in her mother’s car about 7.20am yesterday to be sent to the nursery on her way to work.

However, after placing the baby in the rear seat, she drove straight to work.

Zam said the woman only realised that the child had been left in her car since morning after her husband informed her that their daughter was absent from the nursery.

The child, the younger of two siblings, was pronounced dead at 5.53pm by a medical officer at the hospital.

The case has been classified as “sudden death”. Further investigations are being done under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 for neglect.

Police are expected to record a statement from the mother after the funeral arrangements. – The Vibes, October 6, 2023
