KUALA LUMPUR – The Klang Valley and Sarawak have seen a rise in hospital admissions due to Covid-19 over the last seven days, said Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin.

In a tweet, he shared a snapshot of a dataset available on CovidNow, pointing to a 22% increase in the Klang Valley and a 16% surge in Sarawak.

He said the ministry’s analysis and surveillance will be ramped up in light of these developments.

“We’ve included a snapshot view on CovidNow to quickly highlight trends. Some leading signs for @KKMPutrajaya to note – hospital admissions in the Klang Valley and Sarawak have increased over the last 7 days. Our analysis and surveillance will ramp up.”

The breakdown of the increase in Klang Valley is – Selangor (23%), Kuala Lumpur (12%) and Putrajaya (5%).

According to CovidNow data, the Klang Valley’s bed utilisation as of 11.59pm yesterday stands at 53.5% and Sarawak’s is at 72.9%

Meanwhile, Sarawak has the highest ICU bed utilisation at 81.3%, while the Klang Valley’s is at 66.3%.

Malaysia recorded 5,516 new cases yesterday and reported 78 deaths, of which 14 were brought-in-dead cases.

Cumulatively, the country has 2,297,289 Covid-19 cases. – The Vibes, October 21, 2021
