YAN – About 160 houses here have been hit by floods again after yesterday’s downpour, two months after a fatal water column incident.

Among the affected areas are villages around Titi Hayun and Batu Hampar, as well as Yan town facing water levels between 0.5m and 0.7m.

Civil Defence Force Disaster Management Committee secretariat chief Mohd Muaz Mohd Yusof said his party received information on the flash floods here at 6.30pm yesterday.

He said houses in Kg Perigi, Kg Raga, Titi Bakong, Kg Lubuk Boi, Pekan Yan, Pulau Chengai Mukim Yan were affected in the flash floods.

“So far, Pekan Yan is still flooded and closed to small vehicles,” he said today.

Muaz said other affected locations are Pekan Singkir Darat, Singkir Kedai Keling, Singkir Genting and Mukim Singkir.

“The total number of houses affected in the flash floods incident in the Yan district is 160.

“I advise residents in the Yan district to be careful and take precaution if their houses are flooded, and to contact the rescue team to facilitate evacuations.”

On August 18, six victims were found dead due to the water column phenomenon in the Gunung Jerai and Titi Hayun areas. – The Vibes, October 21, 2021
