SINGAPORE – A Malaysian man was among 16 more people who died from Covid-19 complications in Singapore yesterday.

The Malaysian is a work permit holder, according to the republic’s Health Ministry.

Of the remaining 15 cases, the ministry said, 11 were male Singaporeans and permanent residents and four were female Singaporeans.

All the cases were aged between 61 and 93 years old.

Among them, eight had been unvaccinated against Covid-19, one had been partially vaccinated and seven had been fully vaccinated.

It said 15 of them had various underlying medical conditions, while a vaccinated case had no known medical conditions. With the new cases, the death toll in the republic has reached 280.

Singapore also reported 3,439 new Covid-19 cases yesterday, taking the caseload to 162,026.

Of the total new infections, 2,937 were detected in the community, 500 in migrant worker dormitories and two were imported cases.

As of Wednesday, 84% of the population here had received the full two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine, and 85% received at least one dose.

In its last update, the republic’s Multi-Ministerial Task Force said the Stabilisation Phase will be extended for another month through November 21 as more time is needed to relieve pressures on its healthcare system. – Bernama, October 22, 2021
