KUALA LUMPUR – The tabling of constitutional amendments concerning the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) will be delayed until the Attorney-General’s Chambers provides clarifications on certain issues.
Online portal Free Malaysia Today had reported that Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Parliament and Law) Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said during discussions at the latest cabinet meetings that two ministers have requested further explanations on the matter.
He further said the attorney-general will attend the next cabinet meeting to clear the air.
Nevertheless, Wan Junaidi assured the constitutional amendments will still take place.
“It has been rescheduled, and from my understanding, it will continue.
“The cabinet only agreed to postpone the tabling,” Wan Junaidi reportedly said.
The constitutional amendments to incorporate contents pertaining to the MA63 was initially scheduled for tabling in Parliament on October 26.
Earlier today, Pakatan Harapan's (PH) supreme council pledged parliamentary support towards the constitutional amendments allowing the government to obtain a two-thirds majority.
PH said it will put politics in the backseat, given the MA63 constitutional amendments form part of the MoU between the opposition coalition and the government. – The Vibes, October 22, 2021
