GEORGE TOWN – The Penang Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) successfully rescued a crewman of a foreign ship who was unconscious while it was on its way to the Penang Port, yesterday afternoon.
In the 5.25pm incident, Penang MMEA received an emergency call from the Maritime Rescue Coordination Center in Ankara, Turkey regarding the incident that happened to the crew member of the Kiran Australia.
State maritime director, Maritime Captain Abd Razak Mohamed said, upon receiving the emergency call, they deployed the Perkasa 1221 rescue boat to the location around 33.5 nautical miles southwest of Pulau Kendi, to carry out evacuation and render medical assistance to the victim.
“The maritime boat arrived at the scene around 6.33pm and the victim was transferred from his ship and taken to the Batu Uban Marine Police jetty before being sent to the hospital,” he said in a statement today.
Abd Razak said the victim who is a Turkish citizen identified as 60-year-old Dogan Serafettin is currently recuperating at a private hospital in addition to receiving further treatment. – The Vibes, October 26, 2021
