GEORGE TOWN – A woman's altruistic intention to help a man who had fallen from a motorcycle turned into a tragedy when both she and the victim were fatally hit by a car.

The incident at Medan Rajawali along Jalan Tun Dr Awang in Bayan Lepas killed them both on the spot.

The victims, Suhaila Zainal Abidin, 45, and Faizal Abu Bakar, 34, died of severe head injuries at 11.15pm last night.

Senior fire officer Helmirizal Che Morad from the Bayan Baru Fire and Rescue Station said the department received a call regarding the accident at 11.26pm and arrived at the location seven minutes later.

He said that a 25-year-old man who was driving the car sustained injuries while another woman who was also trying to help the motorcyclist broke her leg.

“The motorcyclist and a woman were confirmed dead at the scene. The driver of the car, who is a civil servant, and another woman suffered leg injuries,” he said.

It is understood both the women had noticed the motorcyclist falling from his Honda Wave bike. As they were giving assistance, the oncoming car collided into all of them.

Helmirizal added that the bodies of the deceased were handed over to police for further action while the two injured victims were sent to Penang Hospital for further treatment. – The Vibes, October 31, 2021
