KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia saw another dip in Covid-19 cases with 4,979 infections today, a slight decline from yesterday’s 5,894 caseload.

Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said this marks the total tally at 2,471,642 cases since the pandemic began.

In a statement, he said the country also recorded 6,127 recoveries today, bringing the cumulative number to 2,374,761.

Dr Noor Hisham said 562 cases are currently under intensive care, with 326 requiring breathing assistance.

He said only 85 (1.7%) of the 4,979 new cases today are in Categories 3, 4, and 5, while the remaining 4,894 (98.3%) are in Categories 1 and 2.

Moreover, he said the country has seen a total of 5,771 clusters, including six new clusters today.

Clusters that have ended number 5,343, while 428 remain active.

According to the ministry’s CovidNow website, Malaysia recorded a total of 44 deaths today – including four cases classified as brought in dead.

Three of the new clusters are related to education institutions, two came from the community, and only one involved a workplace.

The Desa Sena education cluster in Seberang Prai, Penang, saw the most infections at 24, while the Industri Jalan Budi Selatan workplace cluster in Batu Pahat, Johor, logged the least infections with eight cases. – The Vibes, October 31, 2021
