GEORGE TOWN – DAP is showing its true colours by opposing efforts by the Kedah government to end gambling activities and reduce the sales of alcohol in the state, said Penang PAS Youth.
In a statement today, its wing chief Muhammad Fawwaz Mohamad Jan expressed hope that the Kedah government will not entertain “less intelligent” politicians who are expected to oppose the decision.
“As expected, they (DAP) will heat up the issue by putting it under a racist and narrow political lens.
“However, the actions of Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor is a massive effort to solve the issues and social diseases, as well as criminal links among the people and the country.
“We believe that the emotional protest by DAP leaders as they are unable to digest the Kedah government’s decision is not because they are fighting for rights, as claimed by them.
“Is this an indication that DAP is part of the mastermind behind many activities, operations, and industries such as gambling and alcohol?” he queried.
Fawwaz claimed the lucrative proceeds from “sinful” industries, in turn, fund the political survival of certain parties who act as “protectors” to gambling activities and alcohol sales.
“Even more worrying, from both industries, there is a huge ‘board of people’ dominating the ‘black economy’ that is ruining the country,” he said.
He added that the government needs to be sensitive in understanding how cunningly both elements influence society to create other social problems and crimes.
“Not only does alcohol damage an individual’s health and contributes to the collapse of the family institution, but from there, other elements emerge such as the proliferation of drugs, prostitution, thefts, robberies, fights, and murders.
“At the very least, despite licensed gambling and alcohol activities, there are more illegal gambling and alcohol sales under the guise of various other issues.
“Therefore, the Kedah government’s move to curb this is necessary as it is already festering.
“We hope that all the oppositions and criticisms faced from this decision will not be felt by Kedah alone.
“However, we are confident that the majority of Malaysians will fully support the decision in order to see a better life for the people, and for the country to be safe from the shackles of gambling and alcohol,” Fawwaz said.
He also hopes that the federal government led by Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob will have the courage and political determination to take similar steps.
“The pockets of government revenue must be purified of gambling and alcohol sources.
“The relevant licences must be cancelled and terminated,” he said.
The noble ideal of creating Keluarga Malaysia, he said, can only be realised by removing the root causes of society’s problems. – The Vibes, November 15, 2021
