BUTTERWORTH – Injured Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) pilot Mohd Fareez Omar is in stable condition, having regained consciousness after his surgery at Seberang Jaya Hospital.
RMAF said in a statement that Fareez, 33, was in surgery on Wednesday 7pm after suffering spinal injuries and is now under the supervision of a medical officer.
It added that the pilot will need follow-up treatment.
“RMAF will continue to ensure his medical treatment is managed in the best possible way.”
The air force also said the Butterworth airbase will coordinate the welfare of Fareez’s wife, Siti Hajar Abdullah, and their two children, aged three and five months respectively.
Meanwhile, RMAF has set up an inquiry board to conduct an investigation into the Hawk 108 plane crash.
“RMAF asks all parties to refrain from speculation and pray for Fareez’s recovery.”
Fareez was injured when his plane crashed on Tuesday.
In the 10.07pm incident, another pilot identified as Mohamad Affendi Bustamy was killed.
Affendi, 31, was buried at Muadzam Shah Islamic Cemetery, in Rompin, Pahang with full military honours. – The Vibes, November 19, 2021
