KUALA LUMPUR – A police officer who allegedly assaulted a matchmaker in a lift has been transferred to perform administrative duties pending ongoing investigations.
According to Selangor police chief Arjunaidi Mohamed, the 35-year-old suspect is a corporal detective stationed at the Selangor police headquarters.
“We took immediate action by transferring the officer in question from his duties as a detective to undertake administrative work while further investigations are being conducted by the Kuala Lumpur police,” he was quoted as saying by Harian Metro.
“Besides looking into criminal conduct, a disciplinary investigation will be carried out on the personnel,” he told a media conference at the Sepang district police headquarters today.

The case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt, and with the suspect’s statement being recorded to facilitate investigations.
If convicted, the suspect faces a prison term of up to one year, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both.
In a video of the incident that went viral on November 16, a perpetrator was seen assaulting a matchmaker in an elevator at Jalan Chan Sow Lin, Cheras.
The policeman was later identified as the assailant on November 18. Initial investigations have reportedly revealed that he paid the victim a fee of RM2,500 to find him a potential match on a matrimony website.
After six months of no news, the suspect allegedly lost his temper and assaulted the 34-year-old woman in a lift at her office, causing her to sustain head injuries, which were treated at Canselor Tuanku Muhriz UKM Hospital. – The Vibes, November 19, 2021
