KUALA LUMPUR – A voter in Alor Gajah has tested positive for Covid-19, causing the Melaka Health Department to issue a notice.

In a statement, state health director Dr Rusdi Abd Rahman said the Alor Gajah district health office (PKD) earlier today received a notification from the Covid-19 Assessment Centre in Melekek informing it of the Covid-19 status of an individual who had gone out to vote.

“The positive result of this patient was received from a private lab after they had completed the voting process. The individual did not exhibit any symptoms when voting.”

He added that the Alor Gajah PKD had taken immediate action by ordering the Election Commission (EC) officials at the said voting centre to temporarily close at-risk areas, including voting channels, so that disinfection works can be done.

“Observation teams from Alor Gajah PKD have also been sent to the said voting centre to ensure that infection controls are carried out in an orderly manner.”

He also called on the public to refer to official statements from the Health Ministry and Melaka Health Department for further information and updates.

Those with inquiries can contact the Melaka Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre at 06-234 5999 or [email protected]. – The Vibes, November 20, 2021
