KUALA LUMPUR – The management of The Datai Langkawi has temporarily closed the iconic resort for a minimum period of ten days from today following the detection of 16 positive Covid-19 cases among its team members.
Calling it a proactive, “careful and well considered business decision”, it said in a statement today that it is releasing the details due to its commitment to full transparency and obligation to offer trusted information.
It said that a number of positive cases were detected during the resort’s regular random testing regime of team members, implemented above and beyond official regulations to ensure the safety of guests and staff, and the individuals were immediately isolated.
“All close contacts up to the secondary level were traced, along with other random team members tested in the follow-up,” it said.
“During this extensive and meticulous investigation, further cases were confirmed. The management of the resort immediately activated quarantine.
“Going beyond prescribed protocols, and out of an abundance of caution and concern for the well-being of guests and employees alike, the management of the resort has also initiated temporary closure procedures.”
The resort management added that it is working with the Health Ministry, with all further instructions implemented immediately.
Professional deep cleaning and sanitisation of staff quarters as well as the resort in entirety has been conducted by an accredited specialised company, and a full testing protocol for all team members has been initiated.
“The health and safety of guests and its 493 employees consistently remain the utmost priority for The Datai Langkawi, and the resort management will continue to follow the strictest health and safety protocols and procedures that have been implemented since March 2020.
“In being uncompromising on health and safety and in undertaking a temporary closure, The Datai Langkawi wishes to express its apologies for any inconvenience caused to guests,” it added.
For any existing booking for stay dates that fall within the period of the temporary closure, the resort is offering a free change of dates or cancellation without penalty and full refund, and all concerned guests will be contacted directly on alternative options.
The Datai Langkawi is managed by Themed Attractions Resorts & Hotels Sdn Bhd, an investment holding company incorporated to develop, manage and operate hospitality and attraction destinations.
