BUTTERWORTH – Nineteen people have been fined RM1,000 each for violating the recovery movement control order (RMCO) after a 2.30am police inspection of a restaurant in Jalan Raja Uda here.
Seberang Perai Utara district police chief ACP Noorzainy Mohd Noor said 13 men and 6 women failed to comply with the standard operating procedures (SOP) under RMCO.
“The violators did not observe physical distancing at the premises.”
Noorzainy said a compound has been issued against the restaurant manager for failing to comply with the SOP.
Meanwhile, police arrested a man for allegedly beating up his brother and father with a machete at a temple in Taman Mesra.
In the 4pm incident yesterday, the 29-year-old suspect was allegedly angry when his brother and father wanted to take him to Kuala Lumpur to visit his grandmother.
“A misunderstanding occurred at the temple and the suspect allegedly hit his brother using a machete.
“The suspect’s father who witnessed the incident tried to help, but was allegedly hit in the head,” said Noorzainy.
He added that the police had arrested the suspect at his residence and confiscated a machete believed to be used in the incident.
“Preliminary investigation found that the suspect, who is unemployed, had 12 criminal cases in his record, and was released from prison in January where he was held for narcotics offenses.
“The suspect's family was informed that the suspect could be mentally troubled because he had set fire to their house before.”
Noorzainy said the case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code and the suspect will be brought to court to obtain a remand order. – The Vibes, November 3, 2020
