KUALA LUMPUR – Johor has topped the list with the most number of unsold houses at 6,441 in the second and third quarter of 2021.

Deputy Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Abdul Muttalib (Maran-BN) revealed this number to the Dewan Rakyat today in response to a query by Tuan Hassan Abdul Karim (Pasir Gudang-PH).

The Pasir Gudang MP had asked for details on the number of unsold homes in Forest City, a controversial housing development project located in Iskandar Puteri, Johor.

Forest City came under scrutiny recently after being ranked by an online content creator as the second “most useless” megaproject in the world.

Ismail, unable to provide statistics based on specific localities, instead answered with the total number of unsold homes in the state and did not comment further on the matter.

Other states with a higher number of unsold housing units listed by Ismail include Kuala Lumpur (3,893 units), Penang (4,683 units), and Selangor (3,376 units).

“The number of unsold homes in the nation for the second quarter of 2021 was 31,112 units, while for the third quarter, 30,290 units went unsold.

“The slight decrease, although not significant, can be attributed to developers lowering the price of houses or offering discounts to ensure that houses are still sold in times of economic uncertainty,” he said.

He also clarified that the figures do not include low-cost housing for the B40 community as they refer to residences such as condominiums, apartments, terrace houses and semi-detached homes. – The Vibes, November 23, 2021
