SEBERANG JAYA – “All the best and good luck,” Bersatu’s Seberang Jaya assemblyman Dr Afif Bahardin told Simpang Renggam MP Maszlee Malik – who was once on the same political divide before the fall of the Pakatan Harapan administration early last year.

Dr Afif, who quit PKR for Bersatu in June last year, said Maszlee’s participation in PKR is in line with the principles of democracy practised in this country.

“It is his right. In a democratic system, it is the right of each to choose which party they want to join. For example, Tun Dr Mahathir (Mohamad) himself has changed political parties three times, even Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is from Umno.

“What is most important is the principle, why we chose that path. To Maszlee, all the best and good luck,” he said after an aid distribution programme by Yayasan Setia Negara at a supermarket here today.

Maszlee today announced his official PKR membership during a ceremony with party president Anwar in Kg Baru Machap, Johor.

Maszlee was sacked from Bersatu in May last year, and withdrew from Parti Pejuang Tanah Air in November.

Meanwhile, Dr Afif said Bersatu will be helping Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) win the state election, maintaining the party’s leadership to govern Sarawak.

“I believe our machinery and supporters in Sarawak will help GPS to win the state election.”

Earlier, Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin announced that the party will not contest in the Sarawak election.

Muhyiddin, who is also Perikatan Nasional chairman, said Bersatu decided this after a recent meeting with GPS chairman Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg.
