MIRI – A veteran politician in Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) has pointed to the apparent disunity among the opposition parties in the state ahead of the 12th Sarawak election.
Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) deputy information chief Datuk Peter Minos said the opposition parties cannot even work with each other at this pre-campaign stage before nomination day.
“Their disunity will be their downfall as they are facing a very united GPS. Anyone in Sarawak can already make an intelligent guess regarding the outcome of this state election.
“There is no need to wait for December 18 to know the result. Even now, the opposition parties of Pakatan Harapan, Parti Sarawak Bersatu, Gagasan Anak Sarawak and so on are quarrelling.
“They are already fighting among themselves for seats. GPS is very united and will enter the campaigning proper as a solid front.
“The opposition will not give any challenge to GPS under this situation now,” he told The Vibes today.
Minos is also the Kota Samarahan Municipal Council chairman.
PBB is the backbone of the GPS ruling coalition.
Other GPS component parties include Sarawak United Peoples Party, Parti Rakyat Sarawak and Progressive Democratic Party.
Prior to the dissolution of the state assembly, GPS held 68 of the 82 state constituencies in Sarawak.
Minos also predicted that GPS will perform better than it did in the last state election five years ago when it was still part of Barisan Nasional.
“This state election will see GPS winning easily in 72 state seats. The chances in the other 10 constituencies also look good for GPS,” he said.
Nomination day for the Sarawak polls falls on December 6 with Sarawakians set to cast their votes on December 18. – The Vibes, November 29, 2021
