KUALA LUMPUR – The leadership of PKR and Amanah should consider proposals of becoming a single party, said former Selangor PKR Youth chief Najwan Halimi.

He said both parties had similar political directions in upholding reform agendas, social justice, as well as championing the rights and welfare of the common people.

“The entry of Amanah into PKR will surely help raise support and build the confidence of the people especially the Malays in rural areas, specifically in the bid to win their support in the upcoming general election,” Najwan said in a statement posted on social media.

“Through the merger, there will surely be a consolidated machinery for both parties at the grassroots level, while solving the issue of seat allocations that has all this while been a challenge to both parties.”

Najwan issued the statement in response to political analyst Wong Chin Huat suggesting Amanah and PKR become a single party.

The former state youth chief said Amanah’s entry into PKR will provide space for the former to consolidate PKR’s leadership structure, which has experienced “a vacuum” at the federal, state, and divisional levels since the Sheraton move last year.

“The merger of political parties is nothing new in the country,” he said.

“History has shown the merger of several political parties becoming a single entity, for example, the merger of Parti Rakyat Malaysia in Parti Keadilan Nasional in 2003, and the rejoining of leaders and members of Semangat 46 into Umno in 1996.” – The Vibes, November 30, 2021
