GEORGE TOWN – Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mazlan Lazim has called on all police personnel nationwide to take the Covid-19 vaccine booster shots.
He said currently only 8,733 officers nationwide, or only 7.6%, had gotten the booster dose.
“We encourage them to take this third dose vaccine because we have been informed that it will give stronger antibodies,” he said at a press conference at the marine police base in Batu Uban here, today.
Mazlan added that a total of 106,352 police personnel or 92.41% were still waiting to receive their booster shot.
He said, so far, no rejections have been recorded within the police force – except for those with health problems.
“If anyone refuses the vaccine, in this case, we will give counseling. But so far, nothing has been rejected and we are heading for 100% (vaccinated).”
Meanwhile, Mazlan, who paid a working visit to Penang today, said the state police will receive a new headquarters in the Northeast district at a cost of RM300 million.
The police office complex will be equipped with state-of-the-art and modern logistical facilities, including 200 quarters for police personnel.
“I understand that currently the Public Works Department is in the process of preparing tenders for eligible developers. We hope with this new facility, the Penang police can provide better services to the community.
It is understood that the police headquarters on Penang Road will still be used.
