MIRI – As election campaigning heats up, permanent Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) chairman Tan Sri Mohd Asfia Awang Nassar is rallying votes for Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).
He said the Orang Ulu groups in the state cannot afford not to vote for the coalition, and that only GPS can help the ethnic groups.
The term Orang Ulu is used to describe ethnic Kenyah, Kayans, Kelabits, Sabans, Lun Bawang, Bisayas and others.
“The Orang Ulu are already a minority in the state. GPS is taking care of the Orang Ulu in state constituencies in Telang Usan, Mulu, Marudi, Murum, Belaga. We ensure their socio-economic progress.
“If they vote for the opposition in this state election, how will they progress?”
Asfia said this when launching PBB’s ground election machinery for these seats.
He called on the Orang Ulu to unite and not be lured in by the promises of the opposition.
He said of the 82 constituencies, only six are populated by Orang Ulu.
“Do not lose your voice in the state government.”
Sarawak heads to the polls on December 18, with nomination day on December 6 and early voting on December 14. – The Vibes, December 1, 2021
