KOTA KINABALU – Sabah has another three Covid-19 clusters today, said Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun.
The clusters are Dialysis cluster in Lahad Datu with 19 cases, Sandakan Prison cluster (39 cases) and Sepanggar cluster (seven cases).
He said the Dialysis cluster involves four hospital nurses, one child and 14 dialysis patients.
Sabah remains the state with the highest daily Covid-19 at 646, according to the state Health Department while cumulative cases totalled 16,841.
Today, Sandakan recorded 226 new infections while Kota Kinabalu has 212.
Masidi said the infections are mostly from close contact with Covid-19 patients.
“Of that, 121 cases in Sandakan are from having close contact with infected people, likewise for 146 new cases in Kota Kinabalu.”
Masidi said Sabah also recorded seven deaths – three in Sandakan, Tawau (two) and one each in Kota Kinabalu and Tuaran.
Meanwhile, Sabah is in desperate need of blood supply as blood banks here are left with 1,350 units.
The Health Department said daily usage is at 220 units while daily donation is at 150 units.
“If this persists, blood supply in the state will be at critical levels within two weeks.”
He said a constant blood supply is important to ensure health treatment continuity, especially for accident victims, thalassemia patients and mothers who have just given birth.
“I am pleading for blood donors to head to the nearest hospital.
“The hospitals can cordone off an area for blood donors so they are not exposed to the virus.”
The enhanced movement control order in Taman Harmoni, Sandakan will be lifted tomorrow seeing there are no new Covid-19 cases.
