MIRI – Plans to set up a fund, food bank, and well-equipped health clinics are in the pipeline, if Sarawak PKR achieves a landslide win in the impending 12th state election.

The party’s Wanita wing said Covid-19 survivors – many of whom are B40 earners – and families whose breadwinners had died due to the virus, are in dire need of long-term help as most of them have been left in the lurch to fend for themselves.

“Many of them are living in the deep interior rural districts,” said Sarawak Wanita PKR’s Lambir candidate Zulhaidah Suboh.

Zulhaidah – who is also PKR branch chief – had issued a joint statement with Opar candidate Meneng Biris and Murum hopeful Aini Amat, noting that numerous Covid-19 survivors are jobless as well.

The three women said a large number of these individuals have not been provided with any welfare support.

“Many of them need long-term medical assistance.

“Those who lost their jobs – or who are unable to work – are living in daily hardship.

“They need welfare assistance, but are not getting help from the state government.

“We hope PKR will win big in this state election, so that we can set up specific plans to help these survivors,” the statement added.

Sarawak has seen some 220,000 individuals infected by Covid-19 – mostly throughout this year – with about 1,800 deaths.

The Wanita leaders said a more comprehensive approach will be worked out to help all those in the B40 group to enhance their livelihoods.

Also in need of more aid are flood victims, single mothers, minimum wage earners, and the poor who have been afflicted with serious illnesses.
