KUALA LUMPUR – Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak has called the government to take a more robust approach in handling floods in light of the disaster that hit Klang last night.
He further expressed hope that agencies involved in flood management are prepared for the task at hand, given the nearly non-stop downpour since yesterday.
However, the Pekan MP pointed out that financial aid is the most important assistance that should be distributed to affected residents.
“Many would have had their personal property destroyed, especially if they live in rural areas.
“I always ensure we have sufficient funds ready to be distributed to victims,” Najib said via a Facebook post, today.
Explaining further, Najib said he also makes sure there would be personal contributions from himself and the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition, especially for states on the east coast.
However, he said that such efforts may need to be broadened this year.
“I see the need to broaden fund distribution this year.
“The weather around the country is bad, and new areas have been hit by floods,” Najib said.
Since last night, various areas in Klang have been hit by floods.
Floodwaters reached into the homes of Klang residents, destroying property.
