KUALA LUMPUR – Federal roads heading to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) have been shut down due to the floods that have hit certain states in the country hard.

Malaysia Airports Holding Bhd (MAHB) warned passengers and airport staff that federal roads to KLIA from Putrajaya, Cyberjaya, Dengkil, Banting, and Nilai have been closed due to floods.

However, KLIA and klia2 can be reached using the Elite Highway and exit at the KLIA toll.

“For those coming from within the airport’s vicinity, you can access the Elite Highway via Serenia City, or use Jalan Pekeliling near SIC/Staff Quarters KLIA.

“Stay safe and stay updated with us,” MAHB tweeted.

As of 8am today, 6,242 victims are seeking refuge at relief centres in Klang, Kuala Langat, Petaling, Sepang, Kuala Lumpur, and Hulu Langat according to the Selangor Menteri Besar's Office.

Yesterday, during a late-night press conference, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri told victims not to worry, as rescue machinery has been mobilised to help those who are trapped.

It is believed that the continuous rain that caused the floods is due to Tropical Depression 29, a rapidly rotating storm system commonly referred to as a tropical cyclone that sustains winds between 50km/h and 60km/h. – The Vibes, December 19, 2021
