KUALA LUMPUR – Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu has accepted criticism dished out by former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak over the ministry’s move to hold a launch ceremony yesterday for a flood relief drive.
On Facebook, the Bersatu deputy president said he agrees with Najib, who pointed out that it was unnecessary to hold an official event before helping flood victims.
“I agree with what was said by Najib Razak. There was no need for an official ceremony with a digital billboard,” Faizal said in a posting.
“This was an announcement on the mobilisation of post-flood volunteering involving youth from around the country.”
Faizal added that the ministry will rectify what is necessary to make improvements moving forward.
He was responding to a post by Najib, who uploaded a screengrab from a video of Faizal giving a speech at the event, which was held yesterday afternoon.
The image of Faizal, who was formally dressed in a red baju Melayu and standing behind a rostrum at the event, was shared by the ministry on its official Instagram account.
“I feel that things like this (event) should not require a signboard and official launch ceremony,” Najib said.
“(He should) just mobilise and assist (victims) immediately.”
