KUALA LUMPUR – Eleven rivers in five states are on red alert (danger) as of 10am after another round of downpour yesterday, according to the data on the Info Banjir portal.

In Pahang, Sg Serting in Jam Padang Gudang, Bera; Sg Luit in Kg Subuh, Maran; and Sg Kechau in Kg Dusun, Lipis are marked as showing an upward trend, while Sg Lipis in Batu Malim, Raub is on a downtrend.

It is also forecasted that Pahang’s Kg Bukit Betong, Kg Demik, Kg Kuala Telang, Kg Telang, Kg Tempinang and surrounding low-lying areas will be flooded at 3pm Monday.

This is based on the data provided by the Meteorological Department at 6.30am today.

As for Johor’s Sg Muar in Kg Awat, Segamat, it is showing an uptrend. No change has been recorded for Sg Tangkak in Kg Seri Makmur.

Both Sg Kelantan in Kuala Krai and Sg Melaka in Batu Hampar are seeing a downtrend.

However, in Negri Sembilan, three rivers have recorded the danger level: Jempol’s Sg Muar in Pekan Rompin (uptrend), Sg Serting in Kg Datok Johan (downtrend), and Kuala Pilah’s Sg Muar in Kg Berembang (unchanged).

Meanwhile, the Social Welfare Department said the number of evacuees is up 4,336 compared to yesterday’s 3,947.

As of 11.30am, Pahang has 33 temporary relief centres, Kelantan (11), Johor (nine), Negri Sembilan (7), Terengganu (4), Melaka (3) and Sabah (2).

Pahang currently has 1,817 evacuees, followed by Johor (656), Kelantan (494), Negri Sembilan (452), Terengganu (451), Sabah (343) and Melaka (123). – The Vibes, January 1, 2022
