KUALA MUDA – It is the end of the road for 30 families in Kg Baru Pulau Tiga here as they are ordered by Alor Setar High Court to vacate their homes by tomorrow.

However, Kedah Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor said the district officer has been instructed to help find a suitable location on government land to house the families.

“The menteri besar in 2014 promised to help but there was no action in recent years.

“Once the high court has made its verdict, we can no longer intervene because the concept of separation of powers in our system does not allow for that,” he said in a statement today.

While Sanusi did not name the menteri besar, Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir helmed the state from May 2013 to February 2016, and again between May 2018 and May 2020.

Sanusi said the residents will have to find rental houses or temporary accommodation first.

“I hope the DO and the Kuala Muda district office will help solve this problem. May there be a ray of hope for the residents.”

The high court issued the notice on December 19 after the 44.2ha land the families had lived on for more than 40 years was said to belong to an individual with the title of “Datuk”.

Residents claimed they believed the land belonged to the government.

However, an individual came forward to claim the plot of land in 2000. – The Vibes, January 2, 2022
