KOTA KINABALU – One new cluster was recorded in Sabah today involving a hotel worker at a holiday hotspot in Kundasang, Ranau.
A worker at Perkasa Hotel in Kundasang became the index case after he was found Covid-19 positive during a symptomatic screening.
Thirty-nine others were found infected with the virus after the follow-up close contact screening, said Sabah Covid-19 spokesman Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun tonight who identified the new cluster as the Jalan Kem Bina cluster.
“It is a workplace cluster involving a 59-year-old male hotel staff member. He was detected as having Covid-19 on December 23.
“Some 70 close contacts were screened, involving family members and his work colleagues, and 39 others were found infected, bringing the total number of cases to 40, with six new cases reported today,” he said.
There has been no indication as to whether the health authorities will be expanding screenings, given the index cases were detected a day before Christmas Eve, when many Sabahans had left for a long leave for the year-end holidays.
Sabah today recorded 161 new cases, down four cases from yesterday, with two deaths.
No new clusters were reported in the state over the last six days, with the latest being the Bahtera cluster reported on Christmas Day. – The Vibes, January 3, 2022
