SANDAKAN – The flood victim who had gone missing on December 31 has been found dead.

The 26-year-old Filipino migrant identified only as Kaerul was found about 1.8km from the spot where he went missing at Sg Osum in Sugut near here yesterday afternoon.

District police chief Kasim Muda said Kaerul had tried to cross over a flooded road before going missing on December 31.

He said the depth of the water was about five feet with strong river currents.

“The search and rescue operation was conducted for five days and Kaerul’s body was found stuck between a log and rock at the river bank on January 4.

“The victim’s body has been sent to Beluran Hospital for post-mortem,” he said in a statement today.

The number of those who perished during the Sabah floods has now risen to three.

The body of a 60-year-old farmer from Beluran and a 28-year-old fisherman from Paitan were both found on January 2 after being swept away by the floods precipitated by bad weather conditions over Sabah over the past week. – The Vibes, January 5, 2022
