KUALA LUMPUR – Some 250 houses in more than 10 areas in Ipoh were damaged in yesterday’s flash floods that occurred after nearly an hour of heavy rain.
Among the affected areas were Lebuh Bercham, Taman Kinta Emas, Taman Cempaka, Kg Tasek, Taman Desa Impian, Persiaran Tasek Timur 7, Taman Seri Gaya, Jalan Salak, Kg Sg Rokam and areas around Bercham, reported Utusan Malaysia.
Ipoh Fire and Rescue Department chief Mohd Azman Husin was quoted as saying that the drainage in the affected areas could not accommodate the large volume of downpour that took place between 7.15pm and 8pm.
He added that the flash floods had damaged about 250 houses.
Meanwhile, photos shared by the state Fire and Rescue Department showed that rescue operations took place in Taman Desa Impian while Taman Perpaduan, Taman Cempaka, Bandar Seri Botani, Tambun, Greentown, and Stadium Badminton were inundated.
However, a check of InfoBencana found that no temporary relief centres in Ipoh were opened. – The Vibes, January 20, 2022
